Stolen @ NZFW

Sadly I couldn’t make it to NZFW this year, but when I’ve been in the past Stolen Girlfriends Club‘s shows are always one of my favs! They’re loud, dark and dramatic with sullen looking models sauntering down the runway…it’s always totally rock n roll! Here’s some of M.A.C’s backstage footage, shot by Olivia Hemus. FLNTR-M·A·C Cosmetics New Zealand-72dpi-165093bf9e-STOLENGIRLFRIENDS11

Best of black

Peering into my closet is like looking into a murky abyss, it’s predominately dark tones and a whole heap of black. I’ve always liked to wear a lot of black, however living in Dunedin has definitely attributed to it’s increase in my wardrobe. I blame it on the abysmal weather. Ominous grey clouds, non-committal drizzle and freezing temperatures don’t make for a very sunny disposition. Here’s my mid-season ‘best of black ‘NZ stylez (bar the lipstick, sunglasses and shoes) P.S. I’ve also shared a link to my secret shoe source!

Dirty Magic

I love it when fashion has a direct musical connotation, that’s why I like Stolen Girlfriends Clubs A/W collection so much, because the influences are so obvious (in my opinion) To me it looks like Dirty Magic is inspired by the British punk movement, with the designers using a combination of leather, plaid, pin-stripe, paisley, safety-pins, chains and raw edges. This entire campaign is stylish and sleek, yet has dirty/debaucheries undertones…bad ass! HERO1

NZFW//Stolen Girlfriends Club

Over a week later and this is my final post on the shows I went to at fashion week…a bit useless, I know! Stolen Girlfriends Club ‘Dirty Magic’ show was off-site at the Red Bull New Zealand Headquarters carpark. This large building, that by day houses vehicles was transformed into a mosh pit of uber stylish fashion people and models walking their way down a zig-zagging runway in SGC A/W 14 collection. The make-up for this show was some of the most dramatic I’d seen all week…Red, black and blue, simultaneously frightening and beautiful, the models looked almost as though they had been crying blood. The clothes were cool….Gothic, dark, punky, bogan, nouveau hillbilly, is how I’d best describe it.

Ride the ‘Rogue Wave’

I was a teenager in the 90s and love the fact I get to be grungey/bogan all over again, but in a grown-up and hopefully more sophisticated kind of a way…that’s why I’m so into Stolen Girlfriends Club‘s SS14 collection ‘Rogue Wave’ because  it gives a “head-banging nod to the nasty nineties”! This collection is more fish-nets, fight clubs, Venice Beach and surf punk than disgruntled tear face teens wearing smeared mascara listening to Nirvana. Here are some of my favourite looks from the women’s range.78.R13 MOHAWK SHELL JACKET-BLACK:MOHAWKS-RRP$264

This is Isaac

I recently worked on a look-book with Dunedin based model, Isaac Silva Looker of N Model Managemant  and found him awesome work with. He was really down-to-earth and sweet and I was totally impressed how he  knew all the words to all the songs that were playing during the shoot!  Here’s a bit about Isaac…

How old are you and where are you originally from? Im 19 and I’m from New Plymouth in Taranaki.

What brought you to Dunedin? I came to Dunedin because I wanted to try my hand at health science. I’m majoring in microbiology and minoring in anatomy, but i take some genetics and zoology papers which are amazing!

When and how were you discovered as a model? I was scouted by my agent ngahuia early last year over facebook! funnily enough.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far? I don’t know if I’d call it a career! but it’s all been great. I loved the shoots I did with NO magazine & Black magazine.

Are you doing fashion week? If so, who are you most looking forward to walking for? Yup,  I’m back up this year for another fashion week, I think I’m most excited for the Stolen Girlfriends Club show, they’re always great.

What do you do when you’re not studying/modelling? I spend nearly all my time listening to, watching or making music, the music scene in Dunedin is amazing! but lately I’ve been making zines for the local zinefest.

What could you eat all day every day? Popcorn ! I eat a massive bowl everyday.

What are you listening to right now? I’m listening to Blackie – I Dont Wear Sneakers over and over…

What’s the last book you read…other than for study? Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.

When you were little what did you want to be? When I was little I wanted to be a scientist (preferably a marine biologist ) by day and a rockstar by night.

What’s your favourite piece of clothing at the moment? My favourite piece of clothing at the moment is a tee-shirt I found in an opshop outside of Wellington, made by some bizarre surf brand called Mango that’s bright pink.
