I’ve been taking photo’s for awhile now…I think about 4 years, however I by no means consider myself a photographer! I own a fancy camera, I’ve exhibited my work and people sometimes pay me to take photo’s, but I’m not sure at what point I’ll go “yes I’m a photographer now”. Maybe when I’ve mastered photoshop or every aspect of photography, which would mean maybe never. All I know is I truly love taking photo’s, specifically of people and I want to get better and better at it. I recently teamed up with Aart Models, taking images of their aspiring models, here’s a few test shoots of 16-year-old LayneLayne2

Stolen @ NZFW

Sadly I couldn’t make it to NZFW this year, but when I’ve been in the past Stolen Girlfriends Club‘s shows are always one of my favs! They’re loud, dark and dramatic with sullen looking models sauntering down the runway…it’s always totally rock n roll! Here’s some of M.A.C’s backstage footage, shot by Olivia Hemus. FLNTR-M·A·C Cosmetics New Zealand-72dpi-165093bf9e-STOLENGIRLFRIENDS11

Company of Strangers crush

I've been gone again awhile, life just keeps getting in the way of
running this blog! I really do intend to post more often, however I now
do all the fashion and beauty writing for The Otago Daily Times, so have
taken on a lot more responsibility...argh.

Anyway here's the amazing campaign images from Company of Strangers SS/17 collection 'Crush'. I've got a
mad crush on that off-white shirt and kimono-sleeve bomber!

Company of Strangers 'Crush' celebrates thier muse of the season,
multimedia artist Eva Hesse.A pioneering female artist in a male dominated space, Hesse merges the
cool austerity of minimalist art with a poetic mix of the whimsical and
subtly sexual.

Loose fits, silk sheaths and playful silhouettes are key this season.
Gauzy, soft linens are mixed both in more traditional, strict shirt and
vest silhouettes as well as playful, almost naïve dresses and jumpsuits,
adding a sense of fun and youthfulness.

Bold silhouettes with a Japanese sensibility- boxy linens, kimono
inspired sleeves are added to sports luxe bombers and give dramatic
shape to zip-through tunics.
CRUSH brings shapes that are versatile and can be worn multiple ways,
dresses can be unzipped and worn as vests, jumpsuits and dresses have
multiple belt loops so the wearer can adjust the look easily.

Pleats, tucks and gathers wrap around sheer silks in pale hues of
lavender and blush quince.
Striking gold lurex elastic banding and discreet blackened metal zips
add an industrial contrast to more feminine silk styles
Raw hemmed silk paisley is dip dyed, silk and twill crepes are finished
off with wide strapping and nickel O rings and fragments of fringing.
Referencing the contrast between industrial and fragile finishes Hesse
often played against each other.

Good Bad Things

I recently discovered Bad Things on Instagram (where all good shit is found) and immediately loved/needed lots of items from the Raglan-based label’s range of tees, tanks, crews and hoodies! The brand references heavy metal album art, old school skate graphics and a touch of comic-gore-Essentially all the good things can be found in Bad Things!280416BADTHINGS0103 1 280416BADTHINGS0126 1280416BADTHINGS0067

Introducing Shjark….

With over a decade of experience in the fashion industry, designer, Amber Gardner is more than ready to launch her own label, Shjark later this year.

Amber started her career as a designer and pattern cutter for Murray Crane at Crane Brothers, where she was responsible for the numerous menswear brands under his umbrella at the time, including the infamous Little Brother label and naval heritage line Gubb & Mackie. During this time, Amber developed a love of tailoring and a fascination with utilitarian and vintage clothing, which forms the foundation of her design aesthetic today.

From there, she moved to Workshop, designing both the men’s and women’s ranges, and it was here her passion for denim was born.

“For me, nothing beats a rich, natural indigo dye, and the nature in which it evolves with its wearer.”

Amber then moved on to Gregory Limited, as designer for Ricochet, which provided a shift in focus and saw her hone her skills in womenswear, while still honoring her menswear background, and the distinctly rock n roll edge of her previous positions.

For Amber, Shjark is her reaction to the shifting tides of the fashion industry and a desire for a ‘more is less’ approach, making her pieces essential items for any wardrobe.SHJARK_0177 copy

Sweet abandon

I haven’t posted in so long that I’m sure anyone who reads this blog will probably have thought I’d abandoned it altogether! I haven’t, and I’m not planning to either, although I don’t post as frequently as I should…I’m not giving up. This is the one thing I’ve ever seemed to be able to commit myself too (it’s been nearly 5 years!!!)  albeit it does seem half-heartedly, I’m way more passionate about it than I ever was about all the things I chucked in, in the past eg, ballet, the violin, any diet, school, most romantic relationships and way too many other things to even list! Anyway here’s the last shoot I shot and styled before I went to India and became vilely ill…I won’t go into detail. It was gross and totally not fashion!
