Today was a typical unbearably freezing Dunedin day, where the sun is shining gloriously, yet it’s too cold to do anything other than stay by the heat-pump. Although I have lots of work to do, I just couldn’t bring myself to even start writing. Instead I procrastinated and made a Lana Del Rey inspired headband out of what I think are pale pink Hybrid Tea-roses and succulents from my garden.
I have a special place in my heart for beautiful lingerie, although I myself am more of a mis-matched cotton knickers and badly fitted bra kind of girl, I appreciate the sensuality and beauty of a fine piece of lingerie. Today I visited Dunedin based designer, Kate Martin of Cupkakes lingerie and accessories and had a wee look at some of the covetable pieces from her ‘Black Betty’ collection…Those high-waisted silk cherry-print briefs are too cute!
In the 90s I was a raver. I remember when raves were so underground you had to get special ‘secret squirrel’ directions to where the party was held, which was often in an abandoned warehouse or miles away, out on some muddy paddock. Back then I had a shaved head and I would get my mother to make me these crazy outfits out of lycra, faux fur and P.V.C. I wore stickers on my face and carried around a kids lunch-box as my handbag. On my feet I wore running shoes…because I did a lot of running on the spot, sometimes blowing a whistle or waving around a glow stick. (Ugh I shudder to think of myself back then!) Anyway I haven’t worn runners for any other reason, than well…running in years, but I’m thinking about investing in another pair to just wear as everyday shoes…I especially love the New Balance 574′s!
I used to listen to this on my disc man before going ‘raving’!
I remember the first cardigan I ever bought. I was 13 years old and it was this flimsy bottle green Nom*D one that I wore and wore until it basically disintegrated. I worked two jobs to pay for it, one as a kitchen hand, at an insanely busy Mexican restaurant and the other as a baby-sitter for three children (one I suspect had undiagnosed ADHD) So as you can imagine, I wanted this cardigan real bad and had to wash a lot of dishes and endure some pretty appalling behaviour to be able to afford it! I’ve owned a lot of cardi’s since then and I’ll own many more! They are my favourite thing to wear when the weather’s cold.
Comme des garçons….
My new (second-hand) cardi from Toffs….can’t really see but it’s fluffy and warm!
When I lived in Melbourne, one of the many jobs I had (I had four at once) was working in a Parisian inspired lingerie boutique called Smitten Kitten. This tiny store was inconspiciously tucked away down a dingy dead-end alley, where our neighbours were, junkies, rubbish-bins and probably a few ferel rodents, it certainly wasn’t the kind of environment you’d expect to find exquisite lingerie being sold. However as soon as you climbed the few steps up into the store, the intoxicating scent of Agent Provocateur perfume would hit you, the crimson velvet walls would close in around you and you would instantly be swept away into another world, one in celebrates the art of seduction. It was while working here that I first discovered Parsian lingerie designer, Chantal Thomass and UK designer Agent Provocateur and I’ve been in love ever since!
I appreciate nail art, yet I simply do not have the patience to sit around and wait for my nails to dry…I always ALWAYS end up smudging them! If I had a steady hand and an hour or so to kill, I would definitely attempt to do these awesome Comme des Garcons nails by Elizabeth Monson though.
On Friday night, I went to the Moodie Tuesday Art and Tee exhibition, where the guys were showcasing their latest range of t-shirts and my friend Jon Thom was showing some of his art (which features on the t-shirts) I want to wear the Lana Del Ray t-shirt and I want the matching painting on my bedroom wall!
